At the press conference on epidemic prevention and control in Shanghai on February 8, health and epidemic prevention experts emphasized that the current confirmed transmission routes of pneumonia caused by new coronavirus infection are mainly direct transmission, aerosol transmission and contact transmission.

Popularization of Science.

  • Direct Transmission

Infection caused by the patient's sneezing, coughing, talking droplets, and direct inhalation of exhaled gas at close range.

  • Contact Transmission

Droplets are deposited on the surface of items, and after contact with contaminated hands, they contact mucous membranes such as the oral cavity, nasal cavity, and eyes, resulting in infection.

  • Aerosol Transmission

Droplets are mixed in the air to form aerosols (particles smaller than 5 microns), which can survive and float in the air for a long time due to their small size, causing infection after inhalation.

Aerosol transmission has a wider range and longer distance than droplet transmission.

How to prevent Aerosol Transmission?

  • Cancel all social gatherings.

  • Normally open windows, more ventilation.

  • Do a good job in daily household disinfection.

  • Personal hygiene.

  • Avoid air and contact transmission.

  • Strict home isolation.

  • Pay close attention to the health of family members.
